The proposed action is approval of a new Airport Layout Plan (ALP)
and Weaverville Airport Master Plan (WAMP) for Trinity County
to construct
a new airport within a thirty minute drive of the Community of Weaverville
that would replace the existing Weaverville Airport.
To meet current
and project aviation requirements in Trinity County, the new airport
requirements are:
- A single bi-directional general utility runway, 5,200 feet
in length and 75 feet in width
- Provisions for runway extension to 7,000 feet
- A parallel taxiway
- 1,700 feet of safety zone on each end of the runway
- Heliport
- Fixed-based and transient aircraft parking
- Hangers
- Aviation fueling facilities
- Aviation services support and administration buildings
- New warning beacons on the airport and on surrounding obstructions
- A new access road and an improved service road
- Land acquisition for the airport, and extension of the runway to 7,000
feet, as identified in the ALP
- Land acquisition of a commercial development area, as identified in
the Weaverville Airport Master Plan, for aviation-related and aviation-compatible
facilities at the Musser Hill Alternative
The existing Lonnie Pool/Weaverville Airport would remain in public
ownership. It would be closed as an airport and converted to other public
use as soon as reasonably possible after the new airport is completed.
Trinity County has already constructed non-aviation compatible facilities
on the airport site.
